We had some absolute belters submitted to the MUNDIAL Film Festival. Global football stories that we fell in love with again, and again, and again. Stories from Scotland to San Francisco, Brooklyn to Birmingham, and they all very much reminded us why we love football. A standout, though, was Mela, by New York's finest, Joshua Guerra. A story of a young girl who has immigrated to the States from Honduras, Mela finds her place in The Bronx, where soccer gives her a home and a place to develop lifelong friendships.

But while her closest friends are about to graduate high school and look to college and a life beyond, Mela must confront the challenges that will shape what she and her family can aspire to as they try to build a life in the US.

Joshua Guerra is a NYC-based photographer and documentarian. Over the last decade, his work has tended to focus on the communities that emerge around sports, most especially soccer, examining how individuals within these communities leverage the game and the passions it inspires to do good. He devotes most of his time to South Bronx United. Otherwise, he takes photos of the game he loves, from Red Hook to Randall's Island to Red Bull Arena.
