Since the 1940s, Meyba—the brainchild of Catalan design duo Josep Mestre and Joaquim Ballbé, the ‘Me y Ba’ of the brand’s name—were regulars on the beaches of Barceloneta, their classic sports-and-swimwear selling like ice-cold Estrella after a long jog down Las Ramblas.
But it wasn’t until 1981 that they broke into football, tasked with making the jerseys for little-known soccer outfit FC Barcelona. They had some good times with Meyba. And to this day, the curvy ‘M’ belies quality and tradition and, if we’re honest, looks a bit like the ‘M’ of our logo, doesn’t it? Made us the perfect bedfellows for a little collab for a throwback Sporting Club de Mundial jersey.
This shirt is green and white, influenced by brand’s also-iconic Real Betis kits of the eighties. The flag of Andalusia bears these colours and the region's emblem, designed in 1918 by pro-autonomist Blas Infante, features Hercules and the legend: “ANDALUCÍA POR SÍ, PARA ESPAÑA Y LA HUMANIDAD” (“Andalusia by herself, for Spain and for Humankind”). Some good marketing that, Blas. Fair play. We just stuck a ‘10’ on the front of our shirt—basically does the same thing.
This jersey is an official collaboration with Meyba, designed in Barcelona, and features our embroidered heritage SCdM crest.
Make sure you look after it, wash it on 30.
