BRIAN CLOUGH & PETER TAYLOR, NOTTINGHAM FOREST, 1979 - WELL OFFSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY
It’s easy to forget now, in the age of always-on, and 24-hour media coverage, of club merchandise, and high-end collaborations, pre-match, post-match, and during-match garments that, at one stage, European Cup-winning management duos could look like the head gardener and wealthy benefactor of a crumbling National Trust house in the Peak District. Here’s Cloughie and Taylor, anyway. West Bromwich Albion away. They’ll win Forest’s first European Cup this season, defeating Malmö in Munich with a Trevor Francis header, and they’ll win their second a year later. A feat that hasn’t been matched by an English club before or since. "I'm not equipped to manage successfully without Peter Taylor” Brian Clough would once say, “I am the shop window, and he is the goods in the back.” Eventually, they would part ways, and while Peter Taylor was a Derby County, they’d fall out. This is before all that though, this is them at their peak, with some mild bickering about to break out.
