Liverpool-based Dead Ball have released a trio of new T-shirts just in time for spring featuring Zinedine Zidane, Johan Cruyff, and Diego Maradona. And we’d like them all.
Reimagining the players as monochrome line-drawn illustrations on a sleek black T-shirt, each utilising a half-tone technique to strip the details from the portraits leaving us to fill in the gaps. Zidane looks stern. Cruyff looks royal. Diego looks nuts. There’s a wardrobe staple in there for all.
Dead Ball founder, Mark Ross, says that we’re so in touch with some memories of players and football that we can remove parts and still recall what they are. “As with most of our designs, our aim was not just to depict the players but rather to capture those specific images we associate with them,” he says. “We all remember that moment of madness from Maradona, as he screamed into the camera.”
The trio of shirts are available now on Dead Ball’s online shop for £28 each, with a second phase of designs in the woodwork due for release in the next few months.
