Words: Sam Diss

Never had the nuts to wear gold boots ourselves, to be honest.

Pink ones, sure. Red even, definitely. White... mums hated them, but they were just about the right side of flash. But gold?

You have to be a player to wear gold. And few players played quite like Zinedine Zidane, one of the most gifted playmakers of all time (and Rachael to Real Madrid’s Ross in their on-again, off-again relationship) who wore the hell out of them.

To celebrate 25 years of the Predator boot, adidas have dropped this truly special gold colourway Predator 19+. New boots come around all the time, but every now and again, one pokes its head above the muddy cleat parapet and stakes its claim as a future great.

Primarily inspired by the 1998 Accelerator boot Zizou won the Ballon d’Or (and World Cup) in, these 19+ boots feature detailed embroidery of Frenchman’s initials on the left boot and David Beckham’s initials on the right.

Part of a wider Archive Pack to celebrate the boot’s birthday and the careers of its two most iconic wearers, these golden wonders aren’t the only ones on the way: Beckham’s legendary 2001 Predator Precision see an updated release, with an all-white K-leather upper and classic red tongue (and comes with two sets of laces; white and red).

Alongside both boots (and their trainer equivalents) will be a jersey, shirt, and pant that throwback to the Real Madrid 2003/2004 strip, when both Becks and Zizou played at the same time for the club.

Lots to look forward to. Bon chance.

The Predator 19+ boot range will be available to purchase from 12 March at adidas.com and selected retailers.
