What’s Spanish for ‘smash and grab’?
El Salvador will be thanking the football gods for being incredibly kind after running out 2–0 winners over Peru last night, despite only having one shot on goal.
Peru ended the match having rained down 20 shots on the El Salvador goal, and dominated possession with 62% of the ball. It’s another case of Football Manager coming to life, after Nacional Potosí lost to Zulia last week even after having over fifty shots on goal. Imagine the team talk in the changies after that one.
Anyway, the first El Salvador goal was an own goal, of course, from Miguel Trauco, but they went and chucked a whole bag of salt into the wound by scoring with their only shot of the whole game in the 91st minute. Football is brilliant, but, in the RFK Stadium in Washington last night, it was just a bit mean as well.
It’s ‘aplastar y agarrar’, by the way. In case you were still wondering about the translation.
