Every season you say you’re not going to buy it but, as soon as your team releases the new shirt, you snap one up in a brainless haze because you know you want it. And, for next year’s kit, it’ll look even sharper. That’s because Avery Dennison are printing all the names, numbers, and sleeve badges on every shirt, after signing a deal with the Premier League.
This, in our humble opinion, is brilliant news. They’ve been a global supplier of Barcelona printing this season, and their shirts look nice and sharp. Over 15 million bits and pieces will get printed, all via waste-reducing processes and water-based ink.
Michael Colarossi, Vice President of Innovation, Product Line Management and Sustainability at Avery Dennison, said: “Sustainability is part of our DNA at Avery Dennison. Our centre of excellence in Norway is 100% landfill-free and powered almost entirely by hydroelectric power.”
Better still, each shirt will be embedded with “smart digital technology” which means, if fans scan the numbers on their jerseys, they can watch exclusive content. Online stuff coming direct from a football shirt? Golden times, these.
We love buying kits. Probably spend a bit much on them in fairness. If you love reading about them as you try to find your next purchase, then read our mag. There’s loads of them. You can pick up a copy below.
