Former AC Milan and Italy legend Franco Baresi believes that Juventus have pulled off a “great coup” by signing Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer from Arsenal.
Baresi believes that Ramsey will have no problems when it comes to adjusting his game in Italy. “I've seen him play. He's obviously a great player,” he told the BBC. “I think Juve has really landed a great coup there and I'm sure he'll be able to adapt to Italian football.”
Ramsey—who was in the Team of the Tournament at EURO 2016 for Wales, had been offered contracts by PSG and was in talks with Barcelona ahead of his agreement to sign for Juventus—will become the highest-paid British player in history, with a reported basic salary of £400,000 a week over the next four years.
Ramsey joins a Juventus team that has won Serie A the last seven seasons, and are on course to win the league at a canter again this season. Baresi is hoping his former club Milan can close the gap on them, especially with their mooted move away from the San Siro in the near future, “Juventus has owned Serie A in the last few years so it's important to see what the other teams can do in terms of growing,” said Baresi. “Teams like Inter, Roma, Milan, Lazio and Napoli are definitely all growing at the moment.”
Champions League qualification will be very important for Milan this year. It brings in money; it brings in opportunities for investment and chances to progress, so it's important.”
