Football has the power to be really lovely and inclusive when it’s not being really divisive and horrible. We’ve all known that warm feeling of being part of some greater collective, standing next to older and much more haggard souls whilst everyone’s consciousness combines in a desperate soup of hope. Sometimes football can be bloody ace.
Unfortunately, we’re not completely there yet, and that is abundantly clear.
So, in the spirit of carrying the egalitarian baton forward, Nike have introduced their new line of EQUALITY products: a nice array of footwear and garb that support inclusion for all. As part of the range, they’ve got a really lovely Black History Month (BHM) collection coming out which celebrates black heritage around the world by fuelling community action to create positive change. The whole lot looks great, and the EQUALITY Mercurial Vapor XIs, in particular, are banging.
Importantly, this means Kevin-Prince Boateng and Dani Alves will be sporting the special Vapor numbers over the next week. Complete with wavy details emulating a visualisation of the sound waves from Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech and banging colours drawn from the Pan-African flag. You can get them for yourself from 15 January.
We write more about boots and jackets and socks in our magazine.
